Understanding Noise Removal in PlayerXP
What is Noise Removal?
Noise removal is an important step that helps ensure the data shown in PlayerXP is meaningful and relevant. Before anything reaches your monitor, we filter out low-quality, irrelevant, or unreadable interactions so your insights stay accurate and useful.
This happens before we even start processing data for your game, and it's designed to reduce clutter and focus on the feedback that actually matters.
How the Noise Removal Process Works
Here’s a simple breakdown of the process:
1. Platform-Level Filtering
Each platform we pull from (like YouTube or Reddit) already removes certain types of content from their public views. These can include spam, scams, bot comments, or inappropriate material.
Although these interactions may still affect visible stats like comment or view counts, they are hidden by the platform and not returned through their APIs.
This is why PlayerXP metrics will never match platform numbers exactly.
2. Removal of Content Without Text
We remove any interaction that doesn't include readable text. This includes:
- Emoji-only comments
- Images or videos without captions
- Links posted without any context
- A simple mention of another user without additional content
If it doesn't carry useful information, we leave it out.
3. Minimum Character Requirement
Very short or low-effort comments usually don’t provide meaningful insight. We apply a minimum character threshold to filter those out and keep the data quality high.
4. Language Filtering
We only include data written in the languages supported by your PlayerXP package. For most users, this means English only.
If you have multi-language support, other selected languages will be included as well. Everything else is removed at this stage.
5. Excluding Unidentifiable Language
Some content doesn’t register as any known language. This might include:
- Gibberish or keyboard smashing
- Conversations written in code or symbols
- Unsupported or overly mixed language input
If we can't detect what language it's in, we don't include it.
Why It Matters
Noise removal helps you get:
- Clearer insights, thanks to a better signal-to-noise ratio
- More accurate sentiment and trend analysis
- Better value from your PlayerXP package, since discarded data is not counted toward your usage
