Though most of our data sources are set up automatically, Discord is one of those that will need to be authenticated on your official account.
With Discord, we have a set process. If you can ensure you are logged into Discord on your web browser as a user with admin privileges, click here and follow the Discord bot install process. Once installed, we'll be able to bring your Discord data through to Player XP, as shown in the image below:
Additional Permissions:
Depending on how your Discord server is set up, if you have a landing screen to prevent spammers/unapproved bots or have set certain permission rules on individual channels, we will require you to provide us with additional permissions. To do this, please follow the following steps as described on Discord’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
The bot will need to be given reading access to any private channel you wish it to crawl. Private channels are denoted by the lock symbol in the top right on the hash (#) symbol.
To access the channel permissions to add permissions, you will need to click on “Edit Channel”
Please note: Using the Discord Integrations to manage the bot's access will not work as it doesn't give all the permissions needed.
Once in the “Channel Permissions” section, click on the “Add members or roles” button to add a member's permissions.
You will then be prompted to search for the roles or members you would like to add to your private channel. Enter “@PlayerXP” on the search bar, the Player XP Bot will automatically come up for you to select. Click “Done” to validate your selection.
You will now see that “Player XP Bot” has been added as one member who can access your channel. Ensure that the bot has the following permissions:
- View Channel
- Read Message History
Checking Discord Data:
Once your Discord server has had the Player XP bot installed, you should start to see data coming through in the coming days. To do this, navigate to the Discord data source inside your dashboard. Once there you should see the following page.
-
Here we have all Discords’ listed channels through which data is collected. You can view data per individual channel by selecting your desired channel from the drop-down menu.
-
You can type in a word to search a topic discussed within Discord to bring up the summary in terms of data related to that particular word. Also, Selecting a channel will provide data related to the topic searched for that particular channel.
-
By clicking on a word on this menu, you will be taken straight to the section you clicked on.
Note that all data that is shown will be from the date range you currently have selected.
